How to clean window covers

« Back to blog

This topic often appears in the questions asked by our clients. How to keep the window blinds clean so that they look aesthetically pleasing and keep their nice appearance for a long time?

First of all, it should be remembered that both internal and external covers are made of high-quality materials, the features of which, among others, relate to limiting the deposition of dirt on the fabrics. This is a very important feature in the context of keeping the guards clean. It means that we do not have to worry about the fact that after putting on the covers, we will spend time constantly cleaning them - instead of enjoying the interior design and the cold that they will provide us in hot weather.

How to clean the inner covers

For ease of use, we will divide internal covers into two categories: lamellas and materials. Lamellas, i.e. horizontal slats, the inclination of which regulates the amount of light in the room; aluminum blinds and wooden blinds have them. Cleaning aluminum blinds is simply wiping them with a damp cloth or a special brush for blinds. In the case of wooden blinds, the cloth should be dry, and only sprayed with a wood cleaner. If you want to wipe wooden blinds with a damp cloth from time to time, then wipe them dry. If we want to maintain the aesthetic appearance of this type of covers, we should not place them in kitchen or bathroom windows (unless these rooms are very well ventilated). Natural material does not like moisture.

Material covers are, in turn, the use of synthetic and natural fabrics. Decorative curtains and Roman blinds are made of natural materials. Here, we advise you to use the laundry services, especially with large sizes of covers and thicker, heavy fabric. If they are smaller, Roman blinds can be washed by immersing them in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, and then dried when hung up. Light and smaller curtains, on the other hand, can be machine washed (according to the instructions on the fabric).

On the other hand, day/night zebra blinds, fabric roller blinds and pleats are made of special impregnated synthetic materials that reduce the amount of dust deposited. It is enough to wipe them with a special dust brush, and from time to time you can wipe the unrolled material with a damp (not wet) cloth soaked in lukewarm water and a small amount of antistatic detergent. The fabric must remain unrolled until it is completely dry.

How to clean the outer covers

In this group, the basic categories are external roller shutters, facade blinds, patio and balcony awnings. Cleaning roller shutters and external blinds can be entrusted to a professional team or use, for example, a Karcher pressure washer (this can be useful for one-level houses). Cleaning is best at the end of the season when it's still warm outside.

The awning material is impregnated so that it does not attract dirt. During the season, for example, leaves or twigs can be removed with a clean brush. If they get wet a little, after the rain ends, unfold the fabric and leave it to dry. The awning fabric can be wet cleaned (after dismantling) - when disassembled, wipe it with a sponge dipped in water and detergent and let it dry.

Cleaning the covers is not complicated, it takes time of course, but in return, we keep their aesthetic appearance for a long time.
