6 ways to attract curious neighbors - or how to cover the window from the neighbors

« Back to blog

No one likes people who find their own lives uninteresting enough to pay attention to the activities of their neighbors. Unfortunately, there are many such people. Curious neighbors are the bane of multi-family blocks of flats in large housing estates. However, there are also a lot of them in districts consisting of detached houses. And although we often hear that the best way to deal with them is to ignore their activities, we do not have to accept such a scenario. Below we present you a few other solutions, effective and no less attractive.

1. Curtains and drapes

If we value solutions that have been successfully used for years, curtains seems to be a solid hit. Although the curtains limit the ammount of natural light getting inside, they won't make the room drown in darkness during the day. At the same time, they provide you with privacy by not allowing strangers to see what is going on inside the house. The situation starts to get complicated only when we are forced to use artificial light to brighten the room. You can solve the problem by using a opaque blackout curtain instead of a transparent one. Opaque blackout curtains are recently very popular in sales - they ensure that the room is completely cut off from sunlight.

The interest in curtains and drapes is supported by the fact that the ones that are on sale today are fundamentally different from the solutions that have dominated the market so far:

  • electric curtains are an ideal option when we want them opening and closing automatically,
  • making curtains and drapes from antistatic materials will make it more difficult for dust to settle on them, and thus - it also guarantees less frequent washing,
  • rich design and colours allow the installation of modern curtains to many rooms, including those where the previously adopted style excluded the use of more classic/older kind of this type of window covers.

The advantage of curtains as protection against neighbors who follow our lives too intensively is that we are dealing with solutions that are relatively cheap. So if we don't like curious people and at the same time we love frequent changes in interior design - it's hard to find a better option.

2. Roman blinds

We can often hear that people who are fed up with curious looks should invest in roller blinds as soon as possible. There is a lot of truth in this, but what to do when classic fabric blinds seem to us visually unattractive? The answer to this question may be Roman blinds - solid, beautiful and extraordinary. Roman blinds are usually described as a compromise solution between classic blinds or curtains. They can be matched to virtually any style. They are functional and will certainly cope not only with distracting the attention of a nosy neighbor from our windows. You can also count on them when you have enough intense sunlight that makes working indoors difficult and unnecessarily heats the room on hot days. Today, light Roman blinds made of natural materials dominate internet sales. Their manufacturers are not limited to solutions of standard sizes thanks to production to size. No one should be surprised by the fashion boom for custom-made Roman blinds. So if we have a house with large windows - especially tempting for overly curious bystanders - we do not have to worry that we will not be able to introduce this type of solution to it.

roman blinds - should we be especially careful when buying them? It is worth remembering that the materials from which they are sewn are characterized by varying degrees of light transmission. So before buying, think about what your needs are in this area. The desire to protect ourselves from curious glances does not have to condemn us to a room drowning in darkness.

3. Venetian facade external blinds

Large windows in new homes tempt not only curious neighbors. They are also often of interest to people who wonder if they can get rich at our expense. In both cases, external blinds may be the solution to our problems. Blinds of this type are classified as external window covers. At the same time, they attract attention not only because they increase the level of home security. Their advantage is also the fact that they are extremely aesthetic, and their modern design increases the attractiveness of the property. They combine comfort of use and energy efficiency. They are a perfect example of modern construction in practice, and they are second to none when we want to ensure the intimacy of the household members. Facade blinds - just like the previously mentioned Roman blinds - are not a solution reserved only for individuals. Their universality makes them also appear in public utility institutions. After all, they protect not only from nosy neighbors. Their lowering ensures pleasant coolness in the room even in the greatest heat. Being aware of this, it is hardly surprising that they are often referred to as solutions to reduce air conditioning expenses. It may seem that external blinds are quite a big expense if we only care about greater intimacy of the household members. However, it is worth remembering that we are dealing with solutions that improve the overall comfort of life. No wonder, then, that the popularity of these products is steadily growing.

4. Day and night blinds

If we are looking for a modern solution that will protect us from prying eyes, and at the same time we do not need external blinds or - for various reasons - we cannot install them, we are not at a loss. The list of modern solutions that conquer the hearts of subsequent users also includes day and night roller blinds. Day and night roller blinds are often called curtains in a modern version. The comparison is not accidental, because they are made of a combination of two types of fabrics - transparent and opaque. Day and night roller blinds are characterized not only by their simple control, but also by the possibility of using dozens of settings, thanks to which you can easily find the one that best suits your needs. They are able to darken the room completely, but nothing prevents them from letting in the sun's rays if that's your preference. As if that was not enough - no matter what setting we choose - we can be sure that what is inside the house will remain invisible to the neighbors. The fabrics from which these types of blinds are made differ in many ways. It depends only on us, what colours and type of fabric they are. So there is no fear that this effective solution will not be able to be introduced into the room due to stylistic incompatibility.

5. Pleated blinds

If we are tired of nosy neighbors, and at the same time we take into account that we do not have a high budget, we should possibly consider opting for pleated blinds. Many people mistakenly associate them with classic material blind models. It is worth emphasizing that we are dealing here with a completely different type of solution, attracting attention due to a number of advantages. What distinguishes them from classic roller blinds is primarily the self-locking mechanism. It is this mechanism, that makes it possible to freely control the height of the blind, letting in sunlight not only from below, but also from above the material. Pleated blinds in their most popular variant do not require a cord or chain to operate. This increases their lifespan and contributes to the fact that their level of safety increases, because it is difficult to damage them even during children's games. The advantage of pleated blinds is also their small size. No overly curious neighbor will be able to find out what we do when we are alone at home. Meanwhile, we won't have any problems with opening the window. As if that wasn't enough, pleated blinds can be mounted in at least several different ways. They are an ideal option for people renting apartments, because they can be easily installed using special brackets - without the need to drill into the window frame or wall. The pleats differ in colour, which makes it easier to match them to interiors in non-obvious tones. However, when buying them, it is also worth paying attention to the fact that they are not always made of the same materials. As a result, we can count not only on classic fabrics, but also on those that have antistatic and thermal insulation properties. Pleats can therefore not only increase the level of our intimacy, but also reduce heating costs.

6. Simple, proven tricks

If we like large windows, and at the same time we are fed up with people who prefer to live our lives than their own, we can use a few simple tricks. The most popular is wrapping windows with a special foil. This allows us to observe what is happening outside the house, but it makes us invisible to people outside. The foil in a modern version also reflects the sun's rays, so we do not have to worry that our apartment will constantly heat up with high intensity in the summer. If the foil does not convince us, in those windows that provide the neighbors with particularly good visibility, let's put plants climbing up. They will not cover us completely, but they will certainly make it difficult to observe our activities. This solution has one more advantage that cannot be ignored. The presence of plants will certainly improve the comfort of functioning at home by purifying the air and making it easier for us to breathe. If we do not cope well with potted plants, an interesting solution may be a chest located in a strategic place, and on it - decorative elements that distract attention from us.
