Interiors in 2021

« Back to blog

Every year at this time on our blog we look at trends appearing in interior design. What has changed and has anything changed at all? Have there been any new, interesting decoration solutions? What about the colors? The world of interior decoration is as colorful as the world of fashion. It is worth knowing what will happen in it in 2021, because it may inspire us to make some interesting changes that will change the home.

Two basic concepts emerge from the forecasts in the decorating trends of 2021. One focuses on ecology, inspired by nature and minimalism. The second is for decadence and extravagance. In both cases, our personality will be the starting point. This word appears everywhere. The upcoming trends do not focus on uniform solutions; they carry a message that tells us to remain ourselves in the first place. They chose what we like the most, they arranged the interiors so that we could feel the best in them. So that they are ours, not interior warehouses. Therefore, this year will be very diverse in terms of trends in interior design.

Nature
Nature is primarily ecology, minimalism, natural materials, subdued colors and plants. The colors of this year are inspired by sand and earth - delicate browns and beiges, mild grays, subdued yellow and rusty orange. It is also worth paying attention to the trend of creating atmospheric interiors in gray and beige tones; this creates a bright and cozy space. However, despite the subdued colors, there is absolutely no question of boredom. The designers have not forgotten about the multi-colored nature. We have here saturated shades of green and blue associated with water, sky and forest, as well as pink, red and violet colored flowers. Such color accents enliven the rooms, and this year minimalist arrangements become more chic and cozy.

Natural materials used in interior design are wood (not only furniture, but also floors and wall elements), stone, wicker, bamboo, ceramics, glass and metal. The latter has so far appeared mainly in the kitchen and bathroom, but now it also includes lamps and tables in the living room. And of course textiles; This year, delicate wool will reign supreme on cushions, blankets, and upholstery on sofas and armchairs.

If nature and ecology are vintage, of course. Vintage is not necessarily antiques, nowadays it is more about restoring furniture that has so far found its place in the attic or in the basement. By giving old furniture a second life and combining it with modern elements, we create a unique style related to memories, but without the effect of an old mess. At this point, it is also worth mentioning the "wabi-sabi" trend coming from Japan. It focuses on the imperfections of utility items and enjoying their natural maturation and aging cycle. The design includes things and materials with signs of use and devoid of a perfect appearance.

And of course the plants! This year, they become an ornament in itself, "curled" designer pots made of, for example, ceramics.

Decadence
In 2021, we will be inspired by the boho and art deco styles. Art deco is a design of the interwar period, crazy 1920s and 1930s. It is combined with elegant coverings, knick-knacks, mirrors, flowing lines and symmetrical space management. It is associated with luxury, elegance and attention to detail.
The distinguishing feature is also the geometric lines (rectangle, square, circle) of furniture and lamps. In 2021, the rounded shape of sofas and armchairs is gaining particular popularity. The materials are mainly wooden polishes and veneers, marble and gilding, ebony and ivory. Favorite art deco fabrics include satin and velvet, often quilted or decorated. The colors are subdued and combined with the function of the room, e.g. the gray and beige of the living room are enlivened by red and a deep shade of green, and there are only cool colors in the bedroom or bathroom. However, what is most characteristic here is the contrasting combination of black and white, for which Coco Chanel's Paris apartment was famous.

Boho, on the other hand, is a passion for natural materials and original decorations. It is a style that focuses on multi-color and artistic ease; intense colors and their flashy combinations dominate here. Vintage furniture is combined with modern accessories and elements of pop culture, art is combined with folklore design, and exotic decorations with delicate materials. Colors such as intense red, turquoise, purple dominate here, but also delicate pastels, especially if there are expressive decorations in the interior. An eclectic interior, saturated with color, emerges from the apparent disorder.
